Late-Life Depression & TMS
Effective depression treatment without adding to an already complex medication regimen.
Late-life depression — typically defined as depression presenting or recurring in adults over 60 — affects an estimated 5–10% of older adults and is associated with increased risk of cognitive decline, cardiovascular disease, and reduced quality of life. It is also notoriously difficult to treat pharmacologically.
Older adults often take multiple medications for chronic health conditions, creating significant drug interaction risk with antidepressants. Many antidepressants also carry specific risks in the elderly — including falls, cardiac effects, hyponatremia, and cognitive impairment. TMS bypasses all of these concerns entirely.
Medicare CoverageTMS is covered by Medicare Part B for eligible patients with a documented MDD diagnosis and prior antidepressant trial. We manage all prior authorization and work directly with Medicare on your behalf. Most Medicare patients pay $0 out of pocket.
- 01
No drug interactionsTMS has no pharmacological activity and cannot interact with existing medications — a critical advantage for older adults managing multiple chronic conditions.
- 02
No fall riskUnlike many antidepressants, TMS does not cause dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, or gait instability.
- 03
No cognitive effectsSome antidepressants produce cognitive blunting or memory effects in older patients. TMS produces no cognitive side effects; many patients report improved mental clarity as depression resolves.
